As official charity partner of the upcoming Adelaide 2015 ITU Duathlon World Championships, Cancer Council SA is encouraging the public to get involved in the event’s Fun Run and get a first-hand look at the course on Friday 16 October.

The Run the World fun run is a timed event, with participants running the same course as the professionals and finishing on the ITU blue carpet and crossing the world champs finish line.

Distances of 2.6km and 5.2km will be available for participants to run, with prizes awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female in each distance.

Those competing will also have the opportunity to support Cancer Council when registering or at the race.

Cancer Council SA Chief Executive, Lincoln Size, said that it was a great opportunity for people to get active and soak up the atmosphere of a great event.

“We know that prevention is a key factor in reducing cancer risk, and we’d encourage everyone to get involved in this fun run and contribute to a healthy lifestyle,” Mr Size said.

“Some of the world’s premier athletes will be competing here in Adelaide and this is a great opportunity to get a first-hand look at the course that they will be running around.

“People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to get involved, and you can compare your lap time to the world’s best.

“At Cancer Council SA we are thrilled to be the official charity partner of the event and look forward to what will be a great event for South Australia.”

Event Ambassador Mark Soderstrom, will be running to support people with cancer.

Mr Soderstrom said “we all know people whose lives have been touched by cancer, and this run will create awareness of the battle that people with cancer face, whilst providing an opportunity for donations to Cancer Council SA.”

The event will be held on Friday 16 October at 6pm at Elder Park.

Throughout the Duathlon World Championships, Cancer Council SA will promote the importance of skin protection when UV levels are 3 and above, to local and international competitors and spectators, while also being trackside over the four championship days.
