  • Fish for Life raising $300,000 for people affected by cancer

    26 October 2015

One man, one boat, 16,500km of unforgiving ocean, 120 days of unforgettable fishing... and you’re welcome aboard!

Fish for Life is a fishing journey, headed up Skipper Mark Ratchford, a passionate man on a mission to make a difference, encouraging families, recreational boaties and clubs to ‘Get their lines out for cancer’ by leading a national Cancer Council fundraising initiative.

Fish for Life will touch over 90 communities including seven capital cities across Australia, joining the fight to beat cancer. A love of fishing, giving back to the community and pushing themselves to the next level has seen a team come together to create an event challenge of a lifetime.

The Fish for Life journey will take place over a six month period, officially launching from the Melbourne Boat Show in June 2016 and returning in November 2016.

Major fundraising events will be held in each capital city with South Australia to welcome the Fish for Life team into Port Adelaide next November with a flotilla of boats.

Keen fishermen and women can get involved by taking on the challenge and jumping on board to fish the best spots in Australia with a team who will be visiting waterways not accessible by general punters.

The event challenge has over 90 spectacular fishing legs up for grabs.

Mr Ratchford encouraged people to get involved. “People are encouraged to ‘Get your lines out’ for cancer with proceeds helping the many people affected by cancer in Australia.”

With 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women to be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, Fish for Life is a determined, whole community journey involving all ages and kinds of people in the fight to beat cancer.

“We want people to be part of something special, participate for a cause, join in to be social and do something fun with their family”, Mr Ratchford said.

Volunteers and fundraising ambassadors are urgently needed to help reach the goal of $300,000 for Australians affected by cancer. The volunteer crew will work with inspiring people and build great relationships sure to outlast the journey.

Please join the crew in making a difference and throw your support behind the event.

Skipper Mark Ratchford is available for speaking opportunities at fishing clubs before or during Fish for Life.
