Sprout Cooking School Managing Director Themis Chryssidis shares a bit about why they are passionate about supporting South Australians impacted by cancer this Mother’s Day.
Why did you decide to support Cancer Council SA, and in particular host a Pink Ribbon Fundraiser?
Cancer affects everyone and sometimes we take the simple things for granted like breakfast with our family. So this year, when more people are going to be spending time at home with their family than ever before, we wanted to shine a light on those families that can’t spend time with their mums, along with the women and mothers that need extra support during this difficult time.
For us at Sprout, food is not just about satisfying hunger or nutrition, it’s about the way it brings people together, starts conversations and helps create memories. We want start a conversation that connects people, while also helping others which is why we decided to support a cause like Cancer Council SA this Mother’s Day.
Why is supporting people impacted by cancer important to you?
Both Callum and I have had close personal experiences with cancer. My grandfather passed away from pancreatic cancer when I was a child and Callum lost his dad to cancer when he was younger. He describes his father fondly and often the memories he shares about his dad involves food, which highlights just how important food is in bringing families together.
What does it mean to know that the money you raise will help South Australians impacted by cancer?
It’s means a huge amount! The last couple of months have been tough for all South Australians and more than ever we need to stick together.
COVID-19 has brought us some huge challenges to us as a business and as a team at Sprout, but during these times it is important to remember what really matters—our health, family and friends. If we can do something that helps families spend time together, while also raising money to help South Australians in need then we’re happy!
